SSAI celebrated its 40th Anniversary on April 4, 2017. We are grateful to our customers and partners who are constantly seeking new frontiers in science and technology, and we are proud to have contributed to over 150 Earth and space science missions. Most of all, we want to recognize the passionate, dedicated, and innovative SSAI employees that have made it all possible. Thank you all for making SSAI such a fantastic company now and for decades to come!


April 4, 2017: SSAI kicked off its 40th anniversary celebration with a wonderful breakfast at the Goddard Recreation Center.  Executives from the Prince George's County Economic Development Corporation and a representative from Senator Chris Van Hollen's office joined the festivities. 

April 11, 2017: The celebration continued in Virginia with Delegate Matthew James; Leonard Sledge, the Director of the Economic Development Department for the City of Hampton; and students and staff from Langley Elementary School taking part in the event. In keeping with tradition, SSAI leaders prepared omelets for the employees, which supplemented the extensive buffets featured at both breakfast events.

As part of its 40th anniversary celebration, SSAI is especially excited to be giving back to the community as part of our 40+ Acts of Kindness initiative where employees volunteer their time and efforts to many worthy causes and local charities.Various events are planned throughout the year.

April 15, 2017: SSAI employees (including SSAI President Anoop Mehta and CFO Linda Aguirre) kicked off the first Act of Kindness by working to clean up a mile-long section of the Washington, Baltimore, and Annapolis (WB&A) Trail in Glendale, MD.


April 21, 2017: SSAI employees (including Vice President Rob Fleishauer) volunteered to keep the city of Hampton, VA clean and beautiful as part of the Adopt-A-Spot program. The company’s adopted area is from the NASA LaRC Badge and Pass Office to the Armistead Avenue traffic light.

Stuff the Bus program at SSAI

April 28, 2017: As part of the YMCA “Stuff the Bus” program, SSAI employees in Lanham, MD and Hampton, VA collected games, balls, sports equipment, and other items to support the YMCA Summer Camp Program.


April 29, 2017: Bowl for Kids’ Sake – SSAI employees participated in a fundraiser to support Big Brothers Big Sisters in the Hampton Area.


May 2, 2017: A team of SSAI employees served lunch to over 300 men, women, and children at the SOME (So Others Might Eat) dining room located in NW, Washington DC.


May 6, 2017: A group of SSAI employees worked to freshen up the gardens at the Annapolis Wellness House.




May 18, 2017: SSAI employees worked to maintain the company's Adopt-A-Spot area in Hampton. Thanks to all of the participants! 


May 26, 2017: SSAI volunteers posted flags on the graves of veterans and their family members at the Hampton Veterans Cemetery in honor of Memorial Day.


June 3, 2017: SSAI volunteers supported the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's “Clean the Bay Day." Thanks to all who participated!



June 10, 2017: SSAI volunteers handled dogs looking to find their forever homes at a Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation adoption event in Rockville, MD. Thanks to everyone who participated!

August 1-22:  SSAI employees are collecting school supplies as part of our annual Back to School Drive to benefit C.T. Reed Elementary School in Maryland and Langley Elementary in Virginia.

October 5: SSAI employees will sort and inspect nonperishable canned goods and other donated food items at the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank in Hampton, VA.

As part of SSAI’s year-long 40th anniversary celebration, a new scholarship has been added to the company’s Dependent Scholarship Program, a program that awards merit-based scholarships to the dependents of SSAI employees that are pursuing bachelor’s degrees. The “40th Anniversary Scholarship” will be awarded this year to the nominee who best embodies SSAI’s commitment to community service and caring for the world in which we live.

June 24, 2017: As part of our 40th anniversary celebration, SSAl hosted a company-wide picnic at Kings Dominion. SSAI employees, their families, and friends enjoyed a fun-filled day of rides, cooling off in the water park, and a delicious picnic lunch under beautiful sunny skies!

April 25, 2017: Congratulations to Bruce Altner for submitting the winning design to commemorate SSAI’s 40th anniversary! Special thanks go out to all of the employees who participated in the contest and to those who submitted creative designs; it was a close race!     


May 23, 2017: A celebration wrapping up the SSAI Corporate Relaxation Challenge was held in Lanham, MD and in Hampton, VA. Overall, 68 SSAI employees participated. Nineteen scored enough points to be eligible for the drawing to receive gift cards; our winners were Susan Raphael and Colleen Mikovitz.  In addition, 29 received water bottles or SSAI Wellness t-shirts, and all attendees enjoyed Rita’s Italian Ices. 


June 14, 2017: SSAI employees participated in a skeet shooting event at the Prince George's County Trap and Skeet Center!

August 5, 2017: SSAI employees and family members cheered on D.C. United as they played Toronto FC!
