Credit: NASASSAI personnel are integral to the development of the new High-resolution Airborne Wideband Camera (HAWC+), which will be a facility instrument on the Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA).  SOFIA is a highly modified Boeing 747 with a 2.5 meter diameter reflecting telescope built by NASA and the German Space Agency. HAWC+ will capture images as well as polarimetry in several infrared bands, and will improve scientists’ capability to observe dust emissions and magnetic fields in molecular clouds. SSAI is responsible for developing all the software to run the HAWC+ observations. Software capabilities include commanding the SOFIA telescope, controlling various pieces of HAWC+ hardware, providing diagnostic displays, and archiving HAWC+ detector data.
