Job Description:

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a part-time Assistant Social Media and Website Editor Intern to join a fast-pace team working on an international science and education website. This individual will be a key member of The GLOBE Program (including NASA GLOBE Observer) in support of NASA and the National Science Foundation (NSF).  

 This position will be virtual for the time being, but may change to in-person as conditions improve and mandates are lifted, and as such the candidate must be local to the Pasadena, California area. 

Duties to include: Assisting the Senior Writer and Editor in: Creating and editing text and imagery for The GLOBE Program’s social media channels. Creating and editing text and imagery, and using the Liferay Content Management System (CMS) to publish news, images, events, etc. to the GLOBE website.  Duties to also include general research of topics, documentation, and taking and providing meeting notes as needed. We are looking for someone with great interpersonal communication skills, who pays close attention to detail, has strong web research abilities and who is a creative and strong writer.  Multi-tasking abilities are a plus as well.

 The Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) Program is an international science and education program that provides students and the public worldwide with the opportunity to participate in data collection and the scientific process, and contribute meaningfully to our understanding of the Earth system and global environment. Required Qualifications:
  • Currently attending a high school, college or University, with a GPA of 3.0 or above
  •   Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must have the ability to be on camera (with a Zoom video conference compatible device/laptop) while working virtually (this is a requirement)
  • Experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, etc., or the Google equivalents (Google Docs, Sheets, etc.)
  • Familiarity with photo editing tools, such as Photoshop
  • Comfortable using several social media platforms and tools
  • Strong command of writing style and grammar
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks at the same time
  • Ability to work independently in a team environment both with and without supervision
  • Must be detail-oriented with good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
