Job Description:

Science Systems Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a candidate for a computer programmer / systems administrator to support SSAI’s Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) group in the development and maintenance of computer systems, networks, and environments at SSAI off-site facility and Goddard Space Flight Center. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a computer science or engineering related background with experience in system administration and networking, strong programming skills in Python, Perl, and Shell scripting Linux environment, and knowledge of both GIT and SVN. He/she will work closely with members of SSAI’s OMPS group to develop the next generation of the computational environment housed on the Team Lead Computational Facility (TLCF) located at GSFC. He/she will also provide system administration and networking support for SSAI-based (and home-based) systems to access the TLCF system.  Additional opportunities may include support for migrating existing capabilities to an on-premise cloud and/or commercial cloud facility.


Required Qualifications:
  • AA in computer science or engineering, with at least 6 years of applicable work and professional certification (e.g. RHCE) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Python, Perl and shell/script programming skills / software development in a Linux environment
  • Strong understanding of LINUX operating systems and security
  • Experience in development, maintenance, and use of configuration management systems (e.g. Git, SVN)
  • Detailed and very technically oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively
  • Willing to demonstrate initiative in task completion and communications
  •  Excellent oral and written communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience developing compiled software (e.g. from FORTRAN, C, C++)
  • Experience developing web pages using CSS and JavaScript
  • Experience with cloud-based computing
  • Knowledge and experience with VPN systems
  • Knowledge of LINUX system administration
  • Understanding of storage integration in a LINUX operational environment
  • Understanding of NIS (Network Information Service)
  •  Knowledge of the NASA/GSFC computational environment
