Job Description:

Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) is seeking a Scientific Programmer/Analyst to support the Ocean Biology Processing Group (http://oceancolor.gsfc.nasa.gov) at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center in scientific software development and evaluation of processing algorithms for current and future Earth remote sensing satellite instruments (e.g., PACE/OCI, VIIRS, MODIS).  Duties will include scientific software development, refinement, and maintenance,  implementation of geophysical retrievals from satellite sensor radiometry, software testing and evaluation of algorithm performance, and development of tools and methodologies to assess and correct for artifacts in derived geophysical products.

Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Physical Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics (post graduate education will be considered for professional experience).
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in the development of scientific data processing software using C/C++ in a UNIX/Linux environment.
  • The successful candidate must also be able to quickly meet requirements to obtain a badge and IT credentials at the Goddard Space Flight Center.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in bio-optical oceanography or atmospheric science, passive remote sensing in the visible to shortwave infrared, and satellite sensor data processing and analysis is highly desirable.
  • Experience with the FORTRAN and Python programming languages.
  • Experience with the production and use of NASA remote sensing data products is desirable, but not required.
