Job Description:

Science Systems and Applications Inc. (SSAI) seeks an Instrument Engineer to support calibrations of ground based and flight optical remote sensing instruments.

Duties include, but limited to:

  • Operate and maintain the NIST traceable calibrations of a variety of spectro-radiometers, radiance and irradiance sources (including integrating spheres, FEL lamps and tunable lasers)
  • Perform calibrations of customer provided instruments and sources, and support the management and operability of the facility’s cleanrooms and engineering laboratory.
  • Activities also include laboratory prototyping, optical table prototyping and integration of opto-mechanical components and electronics instrumentation, optical alignment, data acquisition
  • LabVIEW programming and procedure documentation.
  • Occasional travel to support calibrations at customer sites and other NASA centers may be required. 
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent experience.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Able to work in a clean room environment.
    • 1-3 years of clean room experience preferred
  •  Experience with optical measurement techniques for remote sensing instruments, lasers, operating and programming for instrument control interfaces and data acquisition, and data analysis software.
  • Good data management, organization, technical writing and presentation skills.
