Job Description:
Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a Software Integration and Test Engineer to support the Global Modeling and Assimilation Office at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The individual will join a team of experienced high-end computing programmers and scientists in integrating science software and model parameters developed by GMAO science staff into the operational GEOS system and perform associated tests.

Other tasks will include:

  • Facilitating software integration of updates to the GEOS land model components (including surface masks across land, lakes, oceans, ice, etc.) and aspects of the vegetation distribution into the full GEOS system.
  • Guiding the trajectory of the GIT adoption across the GMAO and to collaborators.
  • Solving daily technical problems (as opposed to purely scientific).
Required Qualifications:
  • MS degree in computer science, software engineering, applied math, or a related field and 6-8 years of experience in designing, running, and analyzing output from numerical models or data assimilation systems or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in software version control using git.
  • Experience in Python 3 programming.
  • Experience with developing parallel software using MPI.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience with asynchronous I/O.
  • Experience with multiple data formats used routinely in Earth science (HDF, NetCDF, etc.)
  • Experience in Fortran programming.
  • Experience creating and manipulating visualizations of scientific data.
  • Experience with high-end computing environments.
  • Experience with additional parallel software approaches including OpenMP, OpenACC, CUDA, Coarray Fortran, etc.
