Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking aa Semiconductor Test Engineer for miniaturized space instruments enabled by nanomaterials to support the Detector Systems Branch at NASA-GSFC requires . Nanomaterials offer a unique set of characteristics that can be leveraged to make miniaturized, low power, lightweight instruments for next generation space missions. In this project, we are developing instruments based on various nanomaterial-based chemical sensors. 

Specific duties for this position may include the following:

  • Characterize sensors using various gases and volatile organics using LabVIEW
  • Perform various electrical and materials characterization of the sensors
  • Test electrical readout as needed
  • Perform data analysis
  • Working in a clean room environment and following good practices to maintain the clean room environment
  • Maintaining a high attention to detail, including the ability to precisely follow instructions and to inspect and report results
  • Demonstrating excellent communication skills, including providing clear verbal and written communication and documentation of methods and results 
  • Providing status reports to project team members, during informal and formal group meetings and via email
  • Displaying initiative and working independently on project tasks, while also working effectively with other project team members
  • Managing time effectively to meet project deadlines
Required Qualifications:
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, or Material Science
  • 3-5 years’ experience in industry or research laboratory environment
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • LabVIEW experience required
  • Able to work in a team environment 
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Desired Qualifications:
  • Prior NASA or industry experience
  • Experience with nanomaterials and materials characterization
