Science Systems and Applications, Inc (SSAI) is seeking a Scientific Programmer/Analyst to support our work under the Support for Atmospheres, Modeling and Data Assimilation contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). 

 

The successful candidate will provide programming and scientific analysis support of aerosol data from various current and future satellite missions. Duties include support of algorithm development, data analysis, validation, and data assimilation with satellite observations; and providing support for future remote sensing efforts to study the Earth’s atmosphere. The successful candidate will also support development and implementation of new algorithms and tools for satellite data analysis including machine learning and cloud computing techniques. 

 

This position will begin as a telecommuting position and is expected to convert to a position based on-site at NASA’s GSFC.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in atmospheric science, meteorology, or a closely related field and minimum of 3 years of experience; or a Bachelors degree in atmospheric science, meteorology, or a closely related field and minimum of 6 years of experience

  • Programming proficiency in Python, C++, and Fortran
  • Experience working in a Linux environment
  • Solid communication skills and demonstrated ability to work well as part of a team
  • A positive attitude and the willingness to learn
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. and ability to meet NASA’s background investigation requirements for IT and physical access to NASA facilities
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in atmospheric science, meteorology, or a closely related field
  • Familiarity with Earth science data formats
  • Experience in data analysis, validation, and data assimilation of satellite observations
  • Familiarity with machine learning and cloud computing programming
