Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking an Applications Coordinator and Data Analyst to support projects on the Hydrosphere, Biospheric and Geophysics (HBG) contract at NASA's GSFC.

This contract provides scientific, engineering and software support for the design, development and testing of remote sensors, sensor systems, space-based instruments, sensor calibration and on-orbit performance analysis to NASA.

Situated at NASA/GSFC in Greenbelt, MD, this position will lead and support the coordination of activities for the NASA Disasters Program and Goddard Space Flight Center Disasters coordinator team. Along these lines, the work will also involve engaging with partners both nationally and internationally to foster further collaboration and engagement with the Disasters activities at GSFC and NASA. A complementary portion of this work will involve engaging with the GIS Disaster Portal team to connect information, data and products to this portal (

This position will also have a focus part-time on data analysis, database management, and science support for disaster-related projects including landslide hazard and risk assessment. Project activities include but are not limited to analyzing landslide data and managing databases of information to support hazard and risk assessment, conducting basic research to support landslide projects, engaging with citizen science activities and support website information. The person is expected to present at conferences and lead or contribute to peer-reviewed papers on this work.

Required Qualifications:
    • MSc or Ph.D degree with at least 5 years of experience in environmental sciences, social science, or similar field or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, oral presentations made at major science conferences, and/or successful collaboration with various scientific entities and partners, domestically and internationally
    • The candidate should be well-organized and effective in running and organizing meetings and should demonstrate skills in synthesizing information for different groups
    • Paper writing experience and presenting experience for both scientific audiences and the general public are required
    • Demonstrated experience with ArcGIS and Python for data analysis and data visualization
    • Strong background in data analytics, and able to identify and perform research tasks
    • Capable of working both independently and within a dynamic project science team
