Job Description:

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking an Electrical/Systems Engineer. The Electrical/Systems Engineer is required to provide direct support and guidance for the development, through fabrication and testing, of non-flight and flight level space support equipment and harnessing on the Electrical Systems Engineering Support III (ESES III) contract at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. The Engineer will provide design and review support, authoring and completion of work orders, perform and supervise harness assembly and testing. Additionally, the Engineer will perform leadership duties on the harness project team.

As the EGSE Lead Engineer, the Lead will provide professional expertise in a highly complex and non-routine environment supporting large or multiple projects. Will provide guidance and expertise to other team members and provides technical development support to solve highly complex issues. Will serve as the project representative for the software and EGSE subsystem development and be the person responsible for ensuring that the EGSE developed for the project meets the project I&T needs. The EGSE Lead attends meetings, support reviews, provides status to the project schedule, develops documentation, and provide technical direction to the various groups developing EGSE on the project. The EGSE LEAD works closely with the scientists and engineers at NASA/GSFC to develop and operate instrumentation for space-based remote sensing. Focusing on instrument design, environmental testing, real-time data processing, and simulation for performance validation of project I&T EGSE. The EGSE LEAD oversees the development of EGSE systems, software, and conduct of testing. The EGSE LEAD ensures that the drawings and software documentation adequately cover the design of the EGSE and that the test procedures are written to adequately verify the requirements and interfaces. The EGSE LEAD ensures that the EGSE is ready to support tests in the various test locations planned throughout the I&T phase of the project. Prior experience with EGSE development is critical and the engineer should have very good leadership skills.


  • Provide design and review support for all project Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) and Sub-systems.
  • Support harness drafting development and reviews.
  • Conduct and supervise harness fabrication for non-flight and flight harnessing.
  • Support and supervise installation of harnessing on mock-up.
  • Support and supervisor clean room operations.
  • Support spaceflight hardware integration and test efforts as required.
  • Provide rack and harness design and review support.
  • Support and supervise Rack and EGSE equipment set-up.
  • Maintain an attention to detail, including the writing of precise and detailed assembly instruction and documentation.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or equivalent discipline with 7 to 10+ years of experience supporting spaceflight and NASA harnessing including leading harness development as a lead or deputy lead engineer.
  • Excellent knowledge requiring EGSE development, fabrication, and testing that include knowledge for rack certification, IPC J-STD-001 soldering, NASA 8739.4 Crimp, Cable, and Harnessing requirements.
  • Experience in support project Integration and Testing activities
  • Ability to create all required documentation to ensure proper harness requirements are followed through proper closeout of all documentation.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Excellent knowledge requiring EGSE development, fabrication, and testing that include knowledge for rack certification, IPC J-STD-001 soldering, NASA 8739.4 Crimp, Cable, and Harnessing requirements.
  • 10+ years for experience in harness assembly, soldering, spaceflight and ground support equipment, and fabrication.
  • ESD and Cleanroom experience and certifications
  • Prior NASA experience
  • Strong communication skills and able to work in a team environment
