Job Description:

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is currently in search of a dynamic, enthusiastic Senior Instructional Designer to join our team. This position will start off as remote but may require work in an office in our Hampton, VA or Greenbelt, MD office.

The Instructional Designer is responsible for conducting analyses and designing training materials for a variety of delivery methods, including instructor-led, computer-based, and mobile training. The Instructional Designer is instrumental in developing training products using a systematic approach, adult learning theories, learning technologies, and industry best practices for instructional design while supporting the organization’s goals and objectives.


Required Qualifications:
  • Qualified candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 5 years of experience in curriculum development and conversion of training materials for instructor-led training, interactive multimedia instruction, blended training materials and courseware for delivery using current technologies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and an ability to build relationships regardless of communication tool (telephone, email, social media, etc.)
  • Practice sound pedagogical and instructional design principles in the conception of e-learning activities and exercises
  • Recommend improvements and revisions to course content delivery and engagement
  • Develop assessments and evaluations for online courses
  • Must have the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management
  • Ability to prioritize and work well under pressure
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Skilled at developing unique training programs
  • Ability to present training and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussions, lecture, simulations, and videos
  • Extremely organized, self-motivated, and capable of working in a rapidly changing environment
  • Ability to analyze data and formulate recommendations for successful strategies
  • Experience managing relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders through various social communication methods
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Position requires strong administrative skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office products

Desired Qualifications:
  • The ideal candidate will possess the following qualities: professional manner and discretion, courteousness, a willingness to learn, and a "can do" attitude
  • Experience using Adobe Captivate and Articulate
  • Experience in all phases of the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation and Evaluation)
  • Talent Management experience a plus
  • Human Resources Certificate or PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Experience with ADP or a Human Capital Management (HCM) or similar software
  • Knowledge of workforce development and career pathways
  • Ability to proactively identify potential issues, evaluate the impact, create and implement a solution, and communicate the issue, steps taken, and results in a timely manner with appropriate parties
